Welcome back!

It’s Sunday School Time!

We want to make sure that everyone at MacKay United Church knows that this coming Sunday, September 9th, is registration day for Sunday School classes.  We’ll also be hosting a back-to-Sunday-School celebration BBQ following the service, to which everyone is warmly invited.

This year we will be launching a new curriculum, a modified version of  “Godly Play”.  Godly Play is a Christian education program that helps children become aware of the mystery of God's presence in their lives.  This year our emphasis will be placed upon basic Bible stories and exploring Church tradition and liturgical expression. We have a number of volunteers already lined up to teach our children these important stories in a fun and exciting way.  We are seeking additional volunteers, too, and we especially hope that some of you without children in the Sunday School might consider stepping forward to assist in this important ministry.  All talents are welcome! In addition to directing a class, we also need greeters and crafty people, carvers and bazaar shoppers to assist us in building the recommended collection of Godly Play props and materials, over the next year (for example, we need wooden figures). If you’d like to know more, please talk to us at the Sunday School registration table during the BBQ.

Our senior students (8+) will also encounter these basic stories but, additionally, will take on a community outreach project, something the children themselves suggested at the end of last year. This will be an challenging, exciting year for our senior students.

To round out the first part of the teaching year, the Sunday School will also prepare and take part in a Christmas pageant developed as part of a drama curriculum headed by our very own Marnie Edwards and Bob Gardiner, who, together, have decades of professional stage, directing and arts teaching experience.  Working with Marnie and Bob represents a tremendous opportunity for our children and we thank Marnie and Bob for sharing their talents and arts ministry with us.

It promises to be a very exciting year, so please spread the word! And join us this Sunday to ask any questions you may have about Sunday School or volunteer opportunities, register your children and enjoy lunch hosted by our Committee.

See you Sunday!  No need to bring anything but yourselves!!!
